The Los Angeles Fire Department CERT Program is proud to recognize Kobey Horn as September’s LAFD  CERT Spotlight.

Kobey Horn, BS, Finance-UCLA and a MBA-UCLA, has a wealth of career experience in Finance and Real Estate. He has been a Banker/Real Estate Loan Officer, Financial Specialist, State of California Department of Savings and Loan Senior VP and Director of Research.

Kobey has served as a Consultant to Financial Institution for Earthquake Recovery Loan Program and Business Recovery Plan; Senior Vice President, Savings and Loan Association; Chambers of Commerce, Membership Development and Interim Executive Director; Public Safety Commissioner, City of La Canada Flintridge (8 years); Manager of Real Estate, Insurance and Securities of large nonprofit organization, including employee safety and Property Inspector.

It should also be mentioned that Kobey is a veteran of the United States Army Reserves holding the rank of Staff Sergeant. Kobey’s long history of community involvement and public service eventually guided him in the direction of CERT Training. As part of a public safety commission and his enthusiastic interest in developing a neighborhood emergency response organization in his community, it was only natural for Kobey to hit the ground running when it came to CERT.

Kobey’s involvement with the LAFD CERT Program began with his duties surrounding employee safety and disaster preparedness at his previous Los Angeles, CA employer.
In October 2006 he applied to the Mayor’s Volunteer Corps as a Community Emergency Response Team Member and has been active with LAFD CERT ever since.

Kobey is currently a member of the LAFD CERT  Call Out Team and is one of our most active members. Always willing to serve wherever he can, Kobey keeps to a “Can Do Attitude” and consistently puts others first. His positive demeanor is infections and seems to always have a smile displayed. As not to limit himself, Kobey has surrounded himself with opportunities to serve others in many capacities, such as an Amateur Radio Operator, Crescenta Valley/LA County Sheriff’s CERT, La Canada Flintridge Volunteer Emergency Response Team, Glendale CERT, LA County Disaster Communications Service, Glendale Police Department patrol volunteer, and as a Red Cross First Aid Volunteer-Emergency Medical Responder. We Thank You Kobey for bringing such a commitment to the Los Angeles Fire Department CERT Program and being such an integral part of your community’s safety and preparedness.
