Busy day in Los Angeles today. We have activated the CERT Callout team and are currently helping to relieve several Fire Resources on wires down. We are based out of FS 83 in Encino. Our volunteers are fantastic. How many folks do you know who would come out in the rain to sit and wait for DWP or LAPD?

Two Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams from Los Angeles and Fairfax Counties have arrived in the town of Ofunato; teams are currently conducting search and rescue operations. The Department of Defense (DOD) has identified a high-pressure water pumping truck in response to the Japanese Prime Minister’s request to assist with cooling the reactors.
Future: The Department of Homeland Security National Operations Center will continue to monitor this event. The next scheduled update report will be published at 0600 EDT, 15 Mar.

Hello to all the Green People!!!
Once again, LAFD CERT is continuing to come up with new and innovative ways to spread the word of preparedness. With the assistance of Battalion 18 Coordinator, Larry Bogatz, we are planning on positioning ourselves around the City of Los Angeles on the evening of October 20, 2010, between the hours of 1800-2200. We will be handing out materials and attempting to motivate people to take part in the Great Shake Out of Oct. 21, 2010 @ 1021!!!

Hello everyone. USC/LA County Hospital will be hosting a very large Drill on November 18, 2010. They are asking us to help them out by having 30-50 volunteers who are willing to act as patients. You will be moulaged and triaged by hospital staff. They will then transport you through the ER for further evaluation. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to be in the middle of one of the busiest ER’s around. A message from CERT-LA.com will be coming soon.

Remember that September is National Preparedness month! If you haven’t put your disaster minds to work, please do something in the area of disaster preparedness that will benefit you and your loved ones when the next disaster hits!!! Food, water, flashlight, extra batteries, waterproof matches, light sticks, toilet paper, plastic bags(for porta-potty), kitty litter for the bottom of the plastic bag, crow bar, duct tape….. More to follow. I can’t give you everything at once.
