I've wondered about the snaplight necklaces/bracelets for kids.  If you snapped it, made it into a bracelet, then looped it over the door handle or taped it to the panic bar, in case the door stop failed, you could tell where the door was.  Even put one at intersections where you have to make a turn.  The reflective thumbtacks that hunters use to find their stand crossed my mind, but would leave a tiny hole...

If you had a piece of rope with a keychain-type caribiner tied on each end, two people could fasten it to their beltloops or vest and keep track of each other.  It was suggested to us for instance that one person could stand by the door and the other person could look in the room and be connected by holding onto the rope.  I thought the caribiners would let you have use of both your hands, and in an extreme emergency the non-locking clip would be easier to unclip than trying to untie a rope.
