Come practice and refresh the skills you learned during the Basic CERT Program Course.
You may have noticed that, over the last few years, the LAFD CERT Unit has partnered with the LA County Operational Area in hosting the semi-annual CERT refreshers. This arrangement has been working quite well. The LA County Operational Area will host this refresher and the Los Angeles Fire Department will host the next one. The two agencies work together to plan and support each event. This is not a matter of "our refresher" and "their refresher", but it is a matter of both groups getting the most for CERT graduates out of their combined resources and experience.
SIGN UP NOW!
TO SPEED UP SIGN-IN ON THE DAY OF THE REFRESHER, PLEASE PRE-REGISTER BELOW! By registering online, you can go through Express Sign-In! At the refresher, you can just find your name on the sign-in sheet, sign next to it and you're ready to go.
Once you have registered for a refresher and your status is verified, participation at future refresher registrations is expedited. Sign up early! All CERT graduates must provide proof of CERT Level I completion (see below for LAFD CERT Graduates); a certificate from the organization that did the training, or an identification card provided by the jurisdiction. (If you fax it to 818-804-5302, you will qualify for Express Sign-In.) CERT-LA, in some instances, may be able to get verification of your completion if you no longer have possession of your certificate.
Please note: There is no jurisdiction or database verification available on the day of the refresher. If you have not been told you are eligible for Express Sign-In, bring a COPY of your CERT certificate or ID.
We will not be able to make copies at the refresher!
NEWS:
Some people have expressed concerns about swine flu.
First of all, if you are feeling sick, please don't come to the refresher.
Swine flu will be discussed at the safety briefing in the morning.
The Fairplex will have restrooms cleaned and ready.
Follow this advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
* Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
* Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
* If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
