We have organized and taught Rural CERT since 1999. Each team in each town has a commander, a co-commander, and a supply team. They meet regularly for meetings and continued training. SPANISH FORK, UT

Spanish Fork CERT teams have been placed on standby when the Quail Creek Dam failed and again in 1997 with flooding in Lehi. Other incidents that have occurred in Spanish Fork that would have warranted CERT teams if they existed at the time include: Thistle Slide, propane tank accident on US 6, 100-year rain storm and flooding, Trojan fire, and several HAZMAT spills.

SPRINGVILLE, UT

Springville CERT trains members using the standard FEMA CERT class curriculum. There is optional training in areas such as hazardous materials. Continued training is provided through seminars, refresher courses, community service projects and mock disasters. The city is divided into sectors, zones, and neighborhoods, with at least 2 team leaders for each group for a redundant calling tree. Each sector has a communications specialist (HAM radio operator) for radio contact with the Police Chief at the disaster command post.

For the past five years, Tooele County Emergency Management has partnered with the Tooele County School District to set up CERTs in every school in the district, with approximately 200 trained and equipped members. In the case of the school teams, Tooele County defines CERT as "Campus Emergency Response Team". Tooele County Emergency Management also offers its training to communities within the county, to increase the number of CERTs and the level of preparedness.
