BELL COUNTY, TX

We have 89 members with 15 mobile team members. All members and mobile teams are associated with local volunteer fire departments.

All teams train at least twice a month at the fire station or under the supervision of the fire department personnel. All mobile team members are highly motivated and trained on the many tasks that they may be called upon to accomplish at a disaster scene, such as EMS triage, ham radio communication, and search and rescue. We also have a CERT mobile trailer. This is a 22-ft. trailer completely equipped with supplies and equipment to support the team for at least four days. This team can be deployed at a moment's notice to a disaster scene. These members are also highly motivated and are used in many tasks at the disaster scene by the incident commander.

FANNIN COUNTY, TX

If Dallas County is ever evacuated during an emergency, 500,000 people are expected to travel up I75 and Hwys 121 and 78 to a little town called Bonham. There it will be the duty of 210 firefighters and a couple dozen peace officers to maintain order while serving the needs of the expanded community. That's a tall enough order when looking after Fannin County's 32,000 citizens alone. Because Fannin County has fewer emergency management resources than all but one Texas county, volunteers from the community will have to rise to the challenge to take care of themselves and neighbors while watching out for potentially dangerous situations.
In all likelihood, Fannin County is going to experience usual disasters like floods and tornadoes before a mass Dallas evacuation. No matter what happens, this CERT and the ones to follow in Fannin County can be on the scene of problems big or small, leading families and neighbors through initial periods of danger, and back to times of safety.

SOUTHEAST TEXAS

This volunteer group is part of the Judges' Citizen Corps group which represents eight Texas counties: Jefferson, Hardin, Chambers, Orange, Jasper, Newton, Liberty and Tyler. These counties and the cities within each county have been operating as a regional team in preparing for terrorism since 9/11. The CERT training provided is the official FEMA curriculum taught by certified LIT instructors. These instructors are professional firefighters who teach at the Lamar Institute of Technology Regional Fire Academy.

WIMBERLEY VALLEY, TX (HAYS COUNTY)

We have trained 53 volunteers and have a goal of 150 in 2004. We have established working relationships with the Hays County Fire Marshall, Wimberley Fire Department, Hays County Sheriffs Office, Wimberley EMS, Central Texas Red Cross, Civil Air Patrol, Hays County Health Department, Texas Forest Service, Wimberley Lions Club, Village of Wimberley and the City of Woodcreek All of these organizations were represented at our recent Homeland Security Fair and Chili Cook-Off. The Fair was a big success with all the area 1st responders bringing equipment for display and Critical Air bringing in a helicopter for the event. We purchased through donated funds a Rehab Trailer and equipment to stock trailer and a Kawasaki Mule, Emergency Service Vehicle. We regularly man first aid stations at Wimberley's Market Day, Emily Ann Theater's many productions, Wimberley Scorpion Festival, and many other events in Hays County. We supply assistance with crowd control and traffic control at the Wimberley 4th of July parade. We have responded to four fires in Hays County and provided rehab to the fire fighters on the scene.
