UNITED STATES SEARCH AND RESCUE TASK FORCE, REGION 1 (PA, NJ, NY, DE and MD)
A city, country or organization which offers the CERT training (or the equivalent)

The United States Search and Rescue Task Force provides FEMA CERT training of two levels as well as coordinating the CERT Task Force (groups of trained CERT teams that work together) for PA, NJ, NY, DE and MD.

The Basic CERT program consists of 20 hours and is available to those civilians and civilian groups requesting the skills necessary to be a successful part of the emergency preparedness and response system in order to assist during the first 72 hours following a disaster. The basic program focuses on community preparedness and becoming self-sufficient after a disaster. It incorporates lectures, video training, hands-on skills training and exercises in areas such as light search and rescue operations, damage assessment, fire suppression, psychology of disasters, disaster medical operations, etc.

The Advanced CERT program consists of 40 hours, taken almost exclusively by emergency services personnel which not only expands their education but, familiarizes them with the CERT training and also shows them exactly how CERTs can be utilized, having gone through the training with them. The advanced training consists of the basic 20-hour CERT core curriculum program and the following modules: 8 hours of Emergency Response to Terrorism, 4 hours of Hazardous Materials Awareness, 4 hours of Structural Collapse Operations Awareness and, 4 hours of First Aid/CPR.

Materials are required for the program and, certificates are issued upon successful completion. Classes may also be tailored to certain groups. Instructors for the CERT training program consist of those from the fire, military, search and rescue and law enforcement community. The U.S. SAR Task Force web site includes educational material for the public and public safety agencies in search and rescue and disaster response, as well as making it a one-stop site for research. Information on the Task Force can be reviewed as well as many topics such as critical incident stress management, the FEMA Community Emergency Response Team, children's educational games, a full search and rescue/disaster glossary, terrorist incidents, wildland fires, natural disasters, hundreds of links to other agencies, departments and organizations and a memorial to the USS Cole.
