The Internet is a dynamic, ever-changing medium of communications. We continually are searching for new links and verifying existing ones to make sure these pages are as current as we can make them. If you have links that you feel belong here, or find one of our links that does not work, let us know at cert-la@usa.net.

Here are the links for CERT teams in other states, U.S. territories, and the rest of the world, and also links for U.S. national and regional sites.

MINDANAO POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE, GENERAL SANTOS CITY, PHILIPPINES
CERT training offered

Inspired by your organization's goal, being a nurse, I also would like to be of help to the community. This is the reason why I also organized our own team here in General Santos City, Philippines. I am a school nurse and, at the same time, Director for Medical and Dental Services of Mindanao Polytechnic College. Last June I came up with a proposal to organize group of volunteers for my first aid team, in which I adapted your CERT. We named our group (MPC-CERT) Mindanao Polytechnic College-Campus Emergency Response Team. It was formally launched last September 12, 2006 and it was covered by one of the television network here in our city. Last July we had our training for First aid and basic life support, and last August we had our Seminar on Disaster management/preparedness followed by an earthquake drill on the next day, seminar on bomb threat and explosives was also conducted that week. Our training for aquatics was last September 16, 23 and October 7, 2006. Before semestral break we were able to have our seminar and training for LUSAR light urban search and rescue. We are still planning to have more trainings for our volunteers, for them to be fully equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for any life threatening emergencies.

ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY, MS
CERT training offered

Claiborne County and Alcorn State University have joined forces to make the local community and the university campus the safest places to live, work and study in Mississippi. Dr. Bruce McGowan (Assitant Dean at Alcorn State University and Claiborne County Port Commissioner)coordinated the CERT effort and recruited all participants with the assistance from the local Director of Homeland Security.

The overall goal of this unified CERT initiative was to provide education and awareness in emergency prepareness to 100 students and community residents. To date, 60 trained CERT volunteers are equipped with CERT Kits and ready to serve.

The campus-based CERT volunteers consist of approximately 35 college students who are assigned to seven campus dormitories (in which they reside)and classroom buildings across the university (where they study, as well as work alongside campus-based first responders as part of their service learning activities. Likewise, university practicum student teachers completing the CERT training will deploy much needed emergency response and safety skills to prospective public schools in which they will perform their practice teaching, thus, establishing essential disaster readiness skills within the local schools.

Twenty-five community residents (to include 3 members of the Claiborne County Board of Supervisors) who attended this CERT training will be on standby and assist the local EOC and Office of Homeland Security when needed. Local supervisors will organize these new CERT volunteers to represent each of their districts/communities. Ultimately, their roles are to provide assistance within their respective neighborhoods and county districts in event of disasters or other crises or when called upon. Local sponsors are the Alcorn State University Office of Student Engagement, Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant, Alcorn State University R.O.T.C., Claiborne County Civil Defense, Claiborne County Office of Homeland Security, and the Mississippi Highway Watch Program.
