3  Program Management / Other Types of Training for CERT members / emergency communications

I had this power point slide file posted under this thread about 4 years ago and it disappeared from the board.  Linda still has the file and she will be placing it back up.  This is a very basic communications training slides that I had developed and used when I was the Team Leader and Instructor for Wyandotte County/Kansas City KS Unified Government Department of Emergency Management.

For all that want to use it or modify it go right ahead.

Hi Grissfd! Excellent on you! The two conferences and last year's big exercise they had hereabouts were well-attended by vocal and prepared folks in wheelchairs and using walkers.

In  my case, I'm on a medication (hopefully temporarily) which would make deployment or heavy duty hazardous for me. I am taking a more cerebral/less muscular role. However, there was no process to drop someone if only temporarily from moblization and notification lists. Other reasons could be family issues, employment issues, failing to meet training objectives, etc.

My CERT's problem is that people dropped out and never surfaced or lost contact. New office systems are being developed to address that, but with tax money dwindling, it wil be interesting to se how much volunteer time they can or will use now. More utilization may mean more people staying involved.

I hope the web folks here are not having to undergo draconian cuts as ours have.

Have you asked why members are nnot participating?
everyone that have a physical or mental condition can still be part of the team.
I am in a wheelchair but very active in my CERT group. I teach Cert,operate communication and logistic. My physical condition slow me down but put me in a nursing home. So think how the member and team can help each other in accomplising the mission of CERT;

This comes to mind because, based on recent medical issues, I have removed myself from Level III because realisticaly I can no longer deploy.

However, I had to do it myself, just notify them I was dropping back. No mechanism exists to sort people out who are no longer capable, inactive, deceased, etc. They continue to send me training notifications and I thank them, but they must realize that I can only operate at the basic level now.

Keep it real, winnow out inactive members and periodically ask folks if they have had a change in family or personal circumstances which would inhibit their response to events or deployments.

Has anyone looked or taught the RED CROSS wilderness and remote first aid class ? Cert members are being trained for disasters which could last unknown time before help arrives. This first aid class teaches how to apply first aid treatment for a extended period. What is your view or opinion ?
